Thomas Dawson

Thomas is a native Houstonian and a Son of the Republic of Texas. Thomas attended the University of Texas at Austin and graduated with a B.A. in History and a minor in Business Administration in 2018. Thomas went on to attend the University of Houston Law Center and graduated in 2021. While in law school, Thomas was elected to and served on the Board of Advocates and competed in multiple mock trial tournaments. He was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 2021. Prior to joining Ryan & Dawson in 2023, he honed his litigation skills at a prominent boutique defense firm in Houston. Thomas is also admitted to the Northern, Southern, Eastern, and Western Federal District Courts in Texas as well as all Federal Bankruptcy Courts in Texas.

 

Thomas focuses his practice on representing plaintiffs and defendants in a variety of litigation, including commercial litigation, commercial and residential construction defects, breaches of contract, real property disputes, landlord tenant disputes, employment law, bankruptcy, and personal injury. In addition to litigation matters Thomas also advises clients on all matters, including business, property, and commercial transactions as well as business and corporate formations.

Thomas has participated bench and jury trials as well as multiple arbitrations before the American Arbitration Association or private arbitration proceedings. Some of Thomas’s representative matters include:

 

  • First chair counsel in a real property dispute bench trial with over $10,000,000 in controversy, secured full injunctive relief on behalf of client and awarded all fees.

  • First chair counsel in residential construction defect private arbitration, received a take-nothing award.

  • Second chair counsel in premises liability two-week jury trial in which plaintiff asked for $8,000,000 at closing, secured complete defense verdict from jury.

  • Second chair counsel in construction lien dispute bench trial, obtained full relief on behalf of client and successfully defended subsequent appeal.

  • Counsel in construction premises liability dispute, obtained summary judgment ruling dismissing plaintiff’s claims entirely.

  • Counsel in construction injury claim, secured summary judgment as to all claims against client.

  • Counsel in personal injury claim involving a subcontractor, secured summary judgment as to all claims against client. Last offer from plaintiff before the client’s summary judgment was granted was $2,000,000.

 

In his free time Thomas enjoys spending time with his wife and chocolate lab, bird hunting, alpine skiing, inshore fishing, cooking, and volunteering his time at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo as a member of the Breeders Greeters committee.
